Some levels in Castle Crashers can be skipped in co-op with another player who has already beaten that level.

In the campaign, some levels are "checkpoint levels", while the majority of them are not. These "checkpoint levels" must be beaten to unlock a skull or character. If they are not beaten, then no character or skull will be unlocked upon beating the Evil Wizard. Checkpoint levels also save your progress. For example, if a player beats Flowery Field but doesn’t make it to Cyclops’ Cave in the same game session, then upon entering a new session, they will have to start from Flowery Field again. This mechanic can be abused to obtain characters and skulls much faster than usual in co-op with another player who has already beaten the campaign.

Level Skipping Route[]

This route covers all checkpoint levels. However, after completing Final Battle, it is required to exit out of the game, start a new session, and then complete Final Battle again to unlock a character/skull.

Alternate Level Skipping Route[]

This route requires 4 more levels to be beaten, but completing Final Battle twice is not needed to unlock a character/skull.

Since Wedding Crash, Alien Ship, Painter Room, and Undead Cyclops Room aren't checkpoint levels but are still required, if the game is exited while following this route, those levels will need to be beaten again.

Notes[]

  • A common misconception is that on Insane Mode, level checkpoints are more strict. This probably originated from the fact that players die more frequently on Insane Mode, so noticing level checkpoints is more likely to occur.
  • With the alternate route, Castle Keep, Parade, Pirate Ship, and Desert Chase aren't required to unlock a character/skull, but not completing them will make you not able to go past them on the map.
  • With the normal route, only 16 of the 36 levels are required, which means only 44% of the campaign needs to be beaten to unlock a character/skull.
    • The alternate route needs 20 of the 36 levels to be beaten, which is 55% of the campaign.
