Castle Crashers Wiki

The Painter is the first of the four final Bosses. Known to be one of the more bizarre enemies, very little is known about him other than that he works for the Evil Wizard. He is a tall humanoid figure wearing overalls smeared with paint, a toolbelt, gloves, a cap, and a toolbox for a head.

Behavior[]

For the first phase, the Painter will drop down from an elevator, walk over to his canvas and create a painting, then walk back to the elevator and retreat back up. The painting(s) must be killed before the Painter will drop back down again. As the Painter's health lowers, the amount of paintings he creates per cycle will increase, to a max of 3 at once.

After the Painter's health goes below 40%, then the second phase will start next time he steps off the elevator. The Painter will run in random directions, changing direction at random intervals. Every time the Painter changes direction, a painting is summoned from a random side of the screen, which run in one direction and have only 1 health.

On death, all paintings will explode. After saying "It must have been something I ate...", the Painter will spit out 16 fruit (Health Potions on Insane Mode if players are missing any) before a Boss Chest drops onto him. If the Unicorn Painting is alive when the Painter dies, it will drop the Unicorn Horn weapon. Afterward, the player can go to the next room to destroy a giant purple crystal, which will unlock the next boss.

Paintings[]

The Painter, instead of attacking the player directly, paints various dangerous cartoonish creatures on his painting frame. Every painting will slowly approach the closest player, and on contact will explode, dealing massive damage.

  • The Scissors Painting is exclusive to the PS3 version.
  • The Clown Painting is unique, as it has random stats. Its health can be in multiples of 100 (300 in Insane Mode), damage in multiples of 10 (50 in Insane Mode), and all resistances in multiples of 10.
  • All paintings receive +100 health per player (+300 health per player in Insane Mode).
  • Instead of x10 health and damage in Insane Mode, paintings receive x3 health and x5 damage.

Tips[]

  • The Painter is the best method for grinding large amounts of gold, if the player has access to the level 50 drill combo, or is playing as Fencer/Industrialist.
    • On average, the Painter drops 258.63 gold from the boss chest.
  • BiPolar Bear is useful for the second phase, as it will automatically kill the spawned paintings, as they all have 1 health.
  • On Insane Mode, using a potion right before the Painter starts spitting out food is recommended, as the lost potion is immediately regained.

Trivia[]

  • Painter is filled with Newgrounds' jokes and references, such as one of his paintings being a "Carrot Clock" (TheClockCrew).
  • Out of all characters in the game, Painter has the most dialogue. The dialogue speech used is a text-to-speech voice called "Boing", which is only accessible on Mac OS X computers.
  • When the chest drops on Painter, it will have his hat on the top.
  • The Music played during the Painter's battle is The Show by Waterflame, the song that The Troll Mother uses for their battle.
  • Painter's minions are concept sketches drawn by Tom Fulp.
  • When the Painter begins to summon paintings towards the end of the fight, the paint on his brush will continue to change color according to what is summoned, despite him not actually painting any of the minions.
  • His blood is made of various colors of paint (it leaks underneath the treasure chest).
  • One of the Painter's paintings may be a reference to Tricky the Clown.
  • The Painter is the only final boss not seen at some point before Wizard Castle Takeoff.
  • The Painter, Cyclops, and the Princesses are the only characters in the game that speak.
  • The Painter can be seen as a statue in the Pit in Pit People along with the Cyclops.
  • Painter was originally going to look like a mummy with a different outfit, but the concept was scrapped.
  • In Wizard Castle Takeoff, When the player encounters the 4 bosses, Painter is seen holding the Orange Princess.
  • Sometimes when killing the Painter, the game becomes overloaded and certain sprites start changing, examples being the Unicorn Horn weapon drop changing into a sandwich or bow, or a projectile cycling through all projectile types. This is caused by too many effects from all of the paintings dying at once. The glitch is purely visual, with no effect on gameplay.
